Endmaße

Endmaße, also known as gauge blocks or Jo-blocks, are precision measuring instruments used in metrology and manufacturing. They are small, rectangular blocks of hardened steel or ceramic, manufactured to extremely precise lengths. Endmaße are typically made in sets of varying sizes, and their primary function is to establish precise, known lengths for calibration and measurement purposes.

The accuracy of endmaße is critical, with tolerances often measured in millionths of an inch or micrometers. They are manufactured to specific standards, such as those defined by ISO or ANSI. When used, endmaße are often wringed together, a process where two endmaße are pressed and slid against each other, creating a very thin film of lubricant between them that allows them to adhere due to atmospheric pressure. This allows for the creation of custom, precise lengths by combining multiple blocks.

Endmaße are indispensable tools in quality control, toolmaking, and precision machining.
