Endeavor

Endeavor, sometimes spelled Endeavour, is a word used as a noun and a verb: a determined effort; to make an effort. It is often used as a proper name for ships, spacecraft, and organizations, conveying a sense of ambition and perseverance.

In historical and scientific contexts, the name has been assigned to notable vessels and missions. HMS Endeavour was the British Royal Navy’s bark commanded by Captain James Cook for his first voyage of exploration from 1768 to 1771. The ship’s fame contributed to the enduring use of the name in subsequent craft and institutions. The Space Shuttle Endeavour (orbit vehicle OV-105) was built to replace Challenger after the 1986 disaster; it flew from 1992 to 2011 and is now on display at the California Science Center in Los Angeles.
