Endästen

Endästen is a municipal town located in the western highlands of Valenor on the continent of Nyr. It lies along the Eld River and is surrounded by mixed forests and grasslands. The municipality covers about 72 square kilometers and had a population of roughly 4,200 according to the latest census.

The name Endästen derives from the Endarin language, combining words for end and stone, reflecting a historical boundary marker and the town’s stony terrain. The town serves as a cultural center for the surrounding rural areas and hosts several regional events.

History and development: Endästen was established in the 11th century as a mining settlement and gradually diversified into forestry and textile crafts by the 16th century. It gained municipal rights in 1630. A drought in 1789 disrupted agriculture, and the arrival of railroad service in 1924 boosted trade and commuting. In recent decades, the economy has diversified toward light manufacturing and tourism.

Governance and demographics: Endästen is governed by a 12-member council elected every four years, with an appointed mayor overseeing daily administration. The predominant language is Endarin, with minority speakers of neighboring dialects. The community maintains local traditions and an annual Harvest Stone festival.

Economy and infrastructure: Key sectors include forestry, small-scale manufacturing, and agritourism. The town is connected by regional roads and has a passenger rail stop on the Valenor Line, complemented by local buses and a market hall serving residents and visitors.
