Electronic Navigational Chart: An ENC is a vector representation of navigational information such as coastlines, depths, hazards, aids to navigation, and other maritime data. Encodings are used with Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) to support route planning and safe navigation. International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) standards govern ENC data, with S-57 being the traditional format and S-101 the modern, universal hydrographic data model. East North Central: ENC is also used as an abbreviation for the East North Central region, one of the United States Census Bureau’s four geographic divisions in the Midwest. The division includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin, and is used for statistical analysis and regional planning.

Encoding or encryption shorthand: In computing and data handling, ENC can appear as shorthand for encoding or encryption. File names, metadata, or documentation may use .enc or ENC to indicate that content is encoded or encrypted. This usage is context-dependent and not tied to a single standard.
