Eläkekertymä

Eläkekertymä refers to the pension accrual or accumulated pension benefit in the Finnish earnings-related pension system. It represents the amount of pension that an individual has earned during their working life up to a certain point. This accrual is based on the individual's earned income and the pension contribution rates that have been paid.

The earnings-related pension system in Finland is funded by contributions from employees and employers, as well as self-employed individuals. A portion of these contributions is allocated to an individual's pension account, forming their eläkekertymä. The accrual rate varies depending on the age of the insured person. For those born in 1950 or later, the accrual rate is 1.5% of their annual earnings up to the pension ceiling. For those born between 1938 and 1949, the accrual rate was generally 2% of earnings.

The eläkekertymä is a crucial component in determining the final pension amount. When an individual retires, their total accumulated pension is calculated based on their eläkekertymä at the time of retirement, adjusted for inflation and wage increases over time. This system aims to ensure that pensions reflect an individual's working history and contributions to the economy. It is a dynamic amount that grows with continued employment and earnings.
