Elutaister

Elutaister is a term that refers to a type of ancient Greek pottery characterized by its distinctive red and black decoration. The term is derived from the Greek words "elutos," meaning red, and "aister," meaning black. This style of pottery is particularly associated with the Attic period of ancient Greece, which spanned from the 6th to the 4th centuries BCE.

Elutaister pottery is known for its intricate and often stylized designs, which include geometric patterns, floral motifs, and figurative scenes. The red and black decoration is achieved through a technique called "red-figure" or "black-figure" painting, depending on the color of the figures. In the red-figure technique, the figures are painted in red against a black background, while in the black-figure technique, the figures are painted in black against a red background.
