Eliminasyon

Eliminasyon is a term used in Filipino to denote the act of removing, excluding, or discarding something. It is borrowed from the Spanish eliminacion and adapted into Tagalog spelling. In everyday use, it refers to the process of getting rid of unwanted elements, such as pests, waste, or obstacles, as well as more formal processes in various fields.

In mathematics and logic, elimination describes methods that remove variables or terms to simplify problems. Examples include the elimination method for solving systems of linear equations, and logical elimination rules that discard inconsistent or unnecessary propositions. In chemistry and biochemistry, elimination reactions are reactions in which atoms are removed from a molecule to form a new, typically unsaturated product.

In sports and competition, a single-elimination format eliminates participants after a loss, narrowing the field to a champion. This usage is common in tournaments, brackets, and knockout rounds. In public health, elimination can refer to reducing or interrupting transmission of a disease in a defined area (as opposed to eradication of the disease globally). The term may also describe the physiological process of waste elimination from the body, including urinary and fecal excretion.
