Elektronmikroskopiska refers to the principles and techniques associated with electron microscopy. Electron microscopy is a field of microscopy that utilizes a beam of accelerated electrons as a source of illumination to scrutinize objects. This method allows for much higher magnifications and resolutions than conventional light microscopy, enabling the visualization of structures at the atomic and molecular level. The high resolution is a result of the very short wavelength of electrons compared to visible light.

There are two primary types of electron microscopes: transmission electron microscopes (TEM) and scanning electron microscopes (SEM). In a TEM, electrons pass through an ultra-thin specimen, and the transmitted electrons form an image. This technique is ideal for examining the internal ultrastructure of cells and materials. In contrast, an SEM scans the surface of a specimen with an electron beam, and the scattered or secondary electrons are detected to create a three-dimensional image. SEM is commonly used for surface morphology studies.
