Elektrolaryngografi

Elektrolaryngografi is a diagnostic technique used to assess the function of the larynx, or voice box. It involves the insertion of a small, flexible endoscope with a camera and a light source through the nose or mouth into the pharynx and larynx. This allows for direct visualization of the vocal cords and surrounding structures. The "elektro" component refers to the use of electrical stimulation during the procedure in some variations, though not all. This electrical stimulation can help to elicit specific laryngeal reflexes or assess nerve function.

The primary purpose of elektrolaryngografi is to identify abnormalities in laryngeal structure and movement that may be contributing to voice disorders, swallowing difficulties (dysphagia), or breathing problems. It can help diagnose conditions such as vocal cord paralysis, nodules, polyps, inflammation, and malformations. The procedure is typically performed in an outpatient setting and is generally well-tolerated. The images and recordings captured during the examination are crucial for accurate diagnosis and for planning appropriate treatment strategies. Depending on the specific clinical question, the procedure may be combined with other diagnostic tools to provide a comprehensive evaluation of laryngeal function.
