Elektrofiliske

Elektrofiliske is a term derived from the Greek words "ēlektron" (amber) and "philos" (loving), signifying a chemical species that is attracted to or reacts with electron-rich centers. In organic chemistry and biochemistry, an electrophile is a molecule or ion that accepts an electron pair to form a covalent bond. This electron-deficient nature makes electrophiles reactive species.

Common characteristics of electrophiles include possessing a positive charge, a partial positive charge, or an incomplete octet of valence electrons. Examples include positively charged ions like the hydronium ion (H3O+) or carbocations. Molecules with polar covalent bonds where one atom carries a significant partial positive charge, such as the carbon atom in a carbonyl group (C=O), also act as electrophiles. Lewis acids are often electrophilic.

Electrophilic reactions are fundamental processes in chemistry. A classic example is electrophilic aromatic substitution, where an electrophile replaces a hydrogen atom on an aromatic ring. The strength of an electrophile is related to its ability to accept electrons, which dictates its reactivity.
