Elektrochemiallinen is an adjective meaning electrochemical, pertaining to electrochemistry—the branch of chemistry that studies chemical processes driven by or producing electrical energy. They encompass energy storage and conversion (batteries, supercapacitors, fuel cells, and water electrolysis for hydrogen production), electroplating and metal finishing, corrosion prevention and protection, and electrochemical sensors for environmental monitoring, medical diagnostics, and industrial process control. Electrosynthesis enables the formation of chemical compounds under electrical influence, offering routes to specialized materials and chemicals.

Historically, foundational work by Galvani, Volta, Faraday, and Nernst established the principles of electrochemical energy, electrode potentials, and electrolysis, forming the basis of modern electrochemical technology.
