Ekoysteemeihin

Ekoysteemeihin refers to ecosystems in Finnish. An ecosystem is a community of living organisms, or biotic factors, interacting with each other and their non-living environment, or abiotic factors. These interactions create a complex and dynamic system where energy flows and nutrients cycle. Examples of ecosystems range from small ponds and forests to vast oceans and deserts.

The biotic components of an ecosystem include all living things such as plants, animals, fungi, and microorganisms. These organisms fulfill different roles, such as producers (plants that create their own food), consumers (organisms that eat other organisms), and decomposers (organisms that break down dead organic matter). Abiotic factors include non-living elements like sunlight, water, temperature, soil composition, and climate.

The relationship between biotic and abiotic factors is crucial for the survival and functioning of an ecosystem. For instance, plants depend on sunlight and water for photosynthesis, while animals rely on plants or other animals for food and shelter. Changes in either the biotic or abiotic components can have significant ripple effects throughout the entire ecosystem, influencing biodiversity, species populations, and overall ecological balance. Understanding these interactions is fundamental to ecology and conservation efforts.
