Ehkäisyrenkaat

Ehkäisyrenkaat, also known as contraceptive rings, are a type of hormonal birth control method approved by healthcare professionals for use by women aged 18 and older. They are small, flexible plastic rings that are inserted into the vagina and left in place for up to three weeks before being removed. The rings release a constant level of the hormones ethinyl estradiol and either levonorgestrel or norethindrone.

There are two main types of contraceptive rings: NuvaRing, which contains ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel, and FemRing, which contains ethinyl estradiol and norethindrone. Both types of rings are highly effective when used correctly, with failure rates of less than 1% per year.

To use a contraceptive ring, a woman inserts it into her vagina at any time of the menstrual cycle. She leaves it in place for up to 21 days, after which it is removed and discarded. A new ring is then inserted, and the process is repeated. The rings can be used continuously for up to 12 weeks, after which a week of placebo ring use is recommended before starting a new pack.

Contraceptive rings provide several benefits, including long-lasting hormonal protection, convenience, and a low risk of side effects. They are also a good option for women who have difficulty remembering to take pills or who have missed their pill. However, they may not be suitable for women with certain medical conditions, such as a history of blood clots or migraines with aura.
