Egyszövetes

Egyszövetes is a Hungarian term that translates to "single-layered" or "monolayer" in English. It is often used in biological contexts to describe tissues or structures composed of a single layer of cells. This type of arrangement is common in simple organisms or in specific functional tissues within more complex organisms where a thin barrier or a specialized absorptive surface is required.

For example, the lining of blood capillaries is an egyszövetes epithelium, known as endothelium. This single layer of cells facilitates efficient exchange of substances between the blood and the surrounding tissues. Similarly, the alveoli in the lungs, the tiny air sacs where gas exchange occurs, are also characterized by a very thin, single-layered wall to maximize oxygen and carbon dioxide diffusion. In some simple multicellular organisms, entire bodies can be egyszövetes, simplifying their physiological processes. The term emphasizes the structural simplicity and the functional implications of having only one layer of cells forming a boundary or interface.
