Efnahagsmati is an Icelandic term that translates roughly as the economic condition or state of an economy at a given time. It is a descriptive concept used in economics and public discourse to refer to the overall health of the economy, rather than a specific policy instrument.

Analysts assess efnahagsmati using a set of macroeconomic indicators, including real GDP growth, unemployment, inflation, productivity, government budget balance, public debt, and external balances such as the current account and exchange rate stability. Forecasts and revisions from institutions like Statistics Iceland and the Central Bank inform judgments of current conditions and likely trajectories.

Economists describe efnahagsmati in terms of phases of the business cycle—expansion, peak, recession, and recovery—and in terms of longer-term structural factors, such as productivity growth, demographics, and investment.
