Eesnäärmevedelik

Eesnäärmevedelik, also known as prostatic fluid, is a component of semen. It is produced by the prostate gland, a small gland located below the bladder in males. Eesnäärmevedelik makes up about 20-30% of the total volume of semen. It is a milky, alkaline fluid that contains various substances, including enzymes, zinc, and citric acid.

The primary functions of eesnäärmevedelik are to help sperm survive and to facilitate their movement. Its alkaline nature helps to neutralize the acidic environment of the female reproductive tract, which can be harmful to sperm. The enzymes present in the fluid, such as prostate-specific antigen (PSA), help to liquefy semen after ejaculation, allowing sperm to swim more freely. Zinc is believed to play a role in sperm motility and stability.

Changes in the volume or consistency of eesnäärmevedelik can sometimes be indicative of health issues related to the prostate gland, such as prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate) or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). In some cases, the presence of blood in eesnäärmevedelik may also signal a problem. Medical evaluation is recommended if any significant changes are observed.
