Eems

Eems is a river in Germany and the Netherlands. It originates in Lower Saxony, Germany, and flows westwards. The Eems is approximately 375 kilometers long. Its course passes through several towns and cities in Germany, including Rheine and Papenburg. Near the Dutch border, the river widens and forms a tidal estuary.

In the Netherlands, the Eems is known as the Eems-Dollard. This estuary is a significant natural area and a vital part of the Wadden Sea ecosystem. The Eems-Dollard is a major shipping route, with the port of Emden in Germany being a key industrial and commercial center located on its banks. The river is navigable for a considerable distance inland, supporting trade and transport.
