EUeIDASVerordnung

The EUeIDASVerordnung, officially Regulation (EU) No 910/2014, is a European Union law that establishes a framework for electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions in the internal market. Its full English title is the Regulation on electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions in the internal market. The regulation aims to ensure that electronic identification and trust services provided in one Member State are recognized and legally valid in all other Member States, thereby facilitating cross-border electronic transactions.

Key components of the EUeIDASVerordnung include provisions for the mutual recognition of national electronic identification schemes. This means that if an individual is identified electronically in one EU country using an officially recognized system, that identification should be accepted by public administrations in other EU countries. The regulation also sets standards for trust services, which include electronic signatures, electronic seals, time stamps, registered electronic delivery services, and website authentication. These services are designed to enhance the security and legal certainty of electronic transactions.

The goal of the EUeIDASVerordnung is to foster trust in electronic interactions, enabling businesses and citizens to conduct online activities, such as accessing public services or entering into contracts, with the same legal certainty as they would in a physical environment. It supports the development of a digital single market by removing barriers to cross-border electronic commerce and service provision. The regulation came into force in July 2014 and became fully applicable in July 2016.
