ERID1
ERID1, also known as Eukaryotic Translation Initiation Factor 4 gamma 1, is a protein that plays a crucial role in the initiation of protein synthesis in eukaryotes. It is a component of the eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4F (eIF4F) complex, which is essential for the recruitment of ribosomes to messenger RNA (mRNA) molecules. The eIF4F complex is composed of three subunits: eIF4E, eIF4G, and eIF4A. ERID1 specifically refers to the eIF4G1 subunit.
This protein acts as a scaffold, bridging the mRNA cap-binding protein eIF4E and the RNA helicase eIF4A.
The activity of ERID1 is tightly regulated and is often dysregulated in various diseases, including cancer.
