EGTAEDTA
EGTAEDTA refers to formulations or buffers that contain both EGTA and EDTA, two commonly used calcium- and metal-chelating agents in biochemistry and molecular biology. EGTA stands for ethylene glycol-bis(β-aminoethyl ether)-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic acid, while EDTA stands for ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid. Both are polydentate ligands that bind divalent metal ions, but EGTA shows higher affinity for calcium ions (Ca2+) and is less aggressive toward magnesium ions (Mg2+) than EDTA.
In practice, EGTA and EDTA are used either separately or together to remove or stabilize free divalent
Common applications include preparation of calcium- and magnesium-free buffers for cell fractionation, immunoassays, enzyme assays, and
Safety and handling follow standard laboratory chemical precautions; both EGTA and EDTA can act as chelating
