Developed as a standardized method to compare fuel quality, E84 measures the fuel’s resistance to autoignition under specific conditions. It is derived from the Research Octane Number (RON) and Motor Octane Number (MON) but is specifically tailored for aviation fuels, which often operate under different thermal and pressure conditions than automotive engines.
