E45

E45 is a major route in the international E-road network, a system of roads across Europe coordinated by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). The designation, E45, identifies a continuous north-south corridor used for freight and passenger transport across multiple countries.

The route runs from Alta, in northern Norway, to Kalamata, in southern Greece, passing through several European states and connecting a range of regional economies. Its corridor traverses Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Austria, and Greece, with segments that rely on national motorways as well as regular primary roads and, where necessary, ferry connections.

Travel on the E45 encompasses varied geography, from northern Norwegian landscapes to central European infrastructure and Greek coastal regions. The quality and specifications of the road sections differ by country, with some stretches built to high motorway standards and others consisting of two-lane or single-carriageway roads.

As part of the E-road network, the E45 is intended to facilitate international traffic and regional integration by providing a standardized route numbering system. Signage along the corridor typically shows the E45 designation in addition to national route numbers.
