Dæklister

Dæklister is a Danish term for an adhesive layer applied to the lid or closure of a container to seal it and provide tamper evidence. The word combines the ideas of a cover (dæk) and a seal (lister). In practice, dæklister refers to sealant adhesives used on jars, bottles, tubes and other closures in packaging across industries such as food, beverages, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. It forms a moisture and gas barrier and can be part of a tamper-evident system when used with foil liners or induction seals. The choice of adhesive depends on the substrate (glass, metal, or plastic), the closure design, storage conditions, and regulatory requirements.

Common forms include hot-melt (thermoplastic) adhesives, water-based dispersions, and certain solvent-based formulations. Hot-melt and water-based systems are favored for speed and compatibility with automated capping lines. Adhesives can be designed to be removable by consumer opening while still providing a reliable seal during transport; variants intended for food-contact are tested for safety and regulatory compliance.

Application is typically on the inner surface of the cap or on the rim of the container lid and is applied on high-speed packaging lines. Safety and environmental considerations include compliance with relevant food-contact regulations, VOC limits, and end-of-life disposal.
