Däckpumps is a term of Swedish origin that translates to "tire pump" in English. It refers to any device used to inflate the tires of vehicles such as cars, bicycles, motorcycles, and trucks. These pumps are essential for maintaining proper tire pressure, which is crucial for safety, fuel efficiency, and tire longevity.

There are several types of däckpumps. Manual bicycle pumps are typically small and portable, designed to be carried on rides. They often utilize a lever mechanism to compress air. Larger, floor-standing bicycle pumps are also common, offering greater efficiency. For automotive use, electric däckpumps are prevalent. These can be powered by a vehicle's 12V outlet or by a rechargeable battery. They often feature a pressure gauge to ensure accurate inflation. Older or more industrial settings might still use hand-cranked or foot-operated däckpumps.

The principle behind most däckpumps is simple: they create a higher pressure inside the pump chamber than the ambient air and then force this air into the tire. This is achieved through a piston-cylinder mechanism, similar to that found in syringes. The air is typically drawn into the pump during one stroke and expelled into the tire during another.
