Dumnonians
The Dumnonians were an Iron Age Celtic tribe who inhabited the southwestern peninsula of Britain, primarily in what is now Devon and Cornwall. Their territory extended to the north coast of Somerset and Dorset. The name Dumnonia is believed to derive from the Celtic word "dun" meaning "fortress" or "hillfort," reflecting the defensive nature of their settlements.
Little is known about the Dumnonians before the Roman invasion of Britain in the 1st century AD.
After the withdrawal of Roman legions in the early 5th century, Dumnonia experienced a period of resurgence
