Dubbelspel

Dubbelspel, meaning "doubles" in Dutch, is a term primarily associated with the sport of tennis. It refers to a match where two players compete as a team against another team of two players. The court is divided into halves, with each team occupying one half. The objective of the game remains the same as singles tennis: to hit the ball over the net and within the court boundaries in such a way that the opposing team cannot legally return it.

In doubles, the serve alternates between the two players on a team after each game. For example, if player A serves the first game, player B will serve the second, and player A will serve the third, and so on. Similarly, the receiving team also alternates which player receives the serve in each game. The strategy in doubles often differs significantly from singles. Communication and coordination between partners are crucial for successful volleys, overhead shots, and defensive play. Players often position themselves to cover different areas of the court, aiming to create opportunities for winners or force errors from the opposition.

There are specific rules regarding foot faults and service lets that apply in doubles, though the core principles of scoring remain consistent with singles.
