Drukreduceerventielen, also known as pressure reducing valves or PRVs, are automatic control valves designed to reduce a high inlet pressure to a stable, lower outlet pressure. They operate by sensing the downstream pressure and adjusting a valve opening to maintain a set point regardless of fluctuations in the upstream pressure or variations in flow. The fundamental principle involves a diaphragm that is acted upon by the downstream pressure. This diaphragm is connected to a spring or other mechanism that opposes the diaphragm's movement. When the downstream pressure drops below the set point, the spring force pushes the diaphragm, opening the valve and allowing more fluid to pass through, thus increasing the downstream pressure. Conversely, if the downstream pressure rises, the diaphragm moves against the spring, partially closing the valve and reducing the flow, thereby lowering the downstream pressure.
