Drivlineuppställning, or drivetrain configuration, refers to the arrangement of the components that transmit power from the engine to the wheels of a vehicle. This configuration dictates how power is distributed and affects a vehicle's performance characteristics, such as acceleration, traction, and fuel efficiency.

The most common drivetrain configurations are rear-wheel drive (RWD), front-wheel drive (FWD), and all-wheel drive (AWD) or four-wheel drive (4WD). In RWD, power is sent to the rear wheels, which is often favored for sports cars and trucks due to its balanced weight distribution and handling. FWD, where power is delivered to the front wheels, is prevalent in many passenger cars because it offers good traction in various conditions and allows for more interior space. AWD and 4WD systems distribute power to all four wheels, providing enhanced traction and stability, particularly in challenging terrain or slippery conditions.

Less common configurations include front-engine, rear-wheel drive (FR), mid-engine, rear-wheel drive (MR), and rear-engine, rear-wheel drive (RR). Each has its own advantages and disadvantages in terms of handling, packaging, and cost.
