Donutdiagramm

A Donutdiagramm, also known as a ring chart or doughnut chart, is a variation of the pie chart. It is a circular statistical graphic divided into slices to illustrate numerical proportion. The key difference from a standard pie chart is that the center of the circle is a blank, open space, resembling a doughnut.

This empty space in the center can be used for displaying additional information, such as a total sum, a label for the entire dataset, or a key performance indicator. Like a pie chart, the size of each slice is proportional to the quantity it represents. The entire circle represents 100% of the data.

Donutdiagramme are useful for showing the relative composition of data. They are particularly effective when comparing a small number of categories. However, like pie charts, they can become difficult to interpret when too many slices are present or when the proportions are very similar, making it hard to distinguish between slice sizes. The open center can sometimes lead to better readability than a pie chart, as it avoids obscuring small slices with a central label. When creating a donut diagram, it is important to ensure that the data is clearly labeled and that the number of categories is manageable for effective visual representation.
