Donutcharts

Donutcharts are a type of pie chart that has a blank area in the center, resembling a donut. Like traditional pie charts, they are used to illustrate numerical proportion. Each slice of the donut chart represents a category, and the size of the slice is proportional to the quantity it represents. The sum of all slices typically represents 100% of the data.

The central hole in a donutchart can serve various purposes. It can be used to display a total sum, a label, an icon, or other relevant information. This feature distinguishes donutcharts from standard pie charts, offering a slightly different visual presentation.

Donutcharts are effective for showing how a whole is divided into parts. They are best suited for displaying a limited number of categories, usually six or fewer, as too many slices can make the chart difficult to read and interpret. The order of the slices can be arranged from largest to smallest, or in a specific sequence relevant to the data.

While visually appealing, donutcharts, like pie charts, can sometimes be challenging to compare the exact proportions of slices, especially when they are similar in size. For precise comparisons of values, bar charts or other graphical representations might be more suitable. However, for a quick overview of proportional relationships, donutcharts can be an effective tool.
