Dominanzen

Dominanzen is the plural form of Dominanz, a concept used across disciplines to denote a state or relation of being dominant within a system.

In genetics, Dominanz describes the relationship between alleles at a locus. Complete dominance occurs when the heterozygote resembles one homozygote; incomplete dominance when the heterozygote shows an intermediate phenotype; codominance when both alleles are fully expressed; and overdominance when the heterozygote has a superior phenotype.

In mathematics, computer science, and decision theory, dominance relations compare options across criteria. An option x dominates y if x is at least as good in all relevant criteria and better in at least one. Pareto dominance, a common form, requires no other option to be better in every criterion.

In ecology and ethology, dominance denotes social hierarchies that influence access to resources, mating, or territory, often resulting from aggression, age, or size.

In music theory, the dominant function governs tension toward the tonic; the designation Dominanz is used in German terminology to describe the harmonic role of the fifth scale degree and related chords.

In social sciences, dominance relates to power relations and social hierarchies; researchers study phenomena such as social dominance orientation, hegemonic norms, and leadership dynamics.
