Dokumentenkredits
Dokumentenkredits, also known as documentary credits or letters of credit, are payment instruments commonly used in international trade. They provide a secure method for buyers and sellers to conduct transactions by mitigating payment risks. Essentially, a bank guarantees payment to the seller on behalf of the buyer, provided the seller presents specific documents that comply with the terms and conditions of the credit.
The process typically begins with the buyer (applicant) requesting their bank (issuing bank) to open a dokumentenkredit
Once the seller presents these compliant documents to their bank, that bank checks them against the terms
Dokumentenkredits are governed by the Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits (UCP), a set of rules
