Doktori

Doktori is a rural settlement situated within the Quba Rayon of the Republic of Azerbaijan. It lies approximately forty‑five kilometres east of the district administrative centre, the city of Quba, and is connected to neighbouring villages by a network of regional roads that serve as vital links for the local agrarian economy. The village’s geographic coordinates place it within the foothills of the Greater Caucasus, an area characterised by a temperate climate with distinct summer and winter seasons.

Historically, Doktori was founded in the late eighteenth century, during a period of territorial reform in the Russian Empire when many new villages were established to strengthen administrative control in the Caucasus region. Archival records indicate that the name Doktori stems from a local tribal leader’s title, rather than the modern Turkish word for “doctors,” and the settlement has retained its traditional place‑name throughout demographic shifts. The village’s population, recorded at about five hundred residents in the 2009 census, is predominantly composed of ethnic Avars, who practice a mixture of farming, animal husbandry, and artisanal crafts.

The primary economic activities in Doktori revolve around agriculture; the fertile valleys support the cultivation of apples, grapes, and various cereals, while livestock breeding provides additional supplementary income. Small-scale beekeeping is also common, contributing to both local commerce and the distinctive honey produced in the region. In addition to its agricultural output, Doktori serves as a cultural hub for the surrounding rural areas, preserving traditional Avar music, dance, and culinary customs. The village participates in regional festivals and markets that foster social cohesion and promote cultural heritage.
