Dobesie

Dobesie is a village situated in north‑western Poland within the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. It falls under the jurisdiction of Gmina Chrzypsko Wielkie in Międzyrzecz County. The village is located roughly nine kilometres south‑east of Krzyż Wielkopolski and about forty‑two kilometres west of the regional capital Szczecin, positioned on the lowlands that form part of the Oder River basin.

The settlement covers an area of approximately 1.4 square kilometres and lies at an elevation of around 20 metres above sea level. The surrounding landscape is characterised by a mix of arable fields, meadows, and patches of pine forests. A small tributary of the Obra River flows near the northern edge of the village, contributing to the local irrigation system.

Dobesie’s origins date back to the early medieval period, with the first written mention appearing in a 14th‑century land register. During the Second World War, the village was occupied by German forces and later returned to Polish administration after 1945. In the post‑war era, the community developed primarily through agricultural activities, with a focus on crop cultivation and livestock breeding.

According to the latest census, Dobesie has a population of approximately 260 residents. Most inhabitants are engaged in farming, while others commute to nearby towns for employment in manufacturing or services. The village maintains a modest cultural life, featuring an annual harvest festival that highlights regional music and traditional cuisine.
