Disulfideboth

Disulfideboth is a term that appears in informal or speculative chemistry discussions to denote a motif or class of molecules featuring a disulfide interaction that binds two fragments together. It is not part of standard chemical nomenclature and has no single agreed-upon definition.

In provisional usage, disulfideboth may refer to several related ideas. One interpretation is a bis-disulfide motif in which two sulfur–sulfur bridges connect two molecular subunits, producing a crosslinked, two-ended linkage. Another interpretation describes a hypothetical bridging motif in which a single disulfide linkage connects two distinct ligands or functional groups at opposite ends of a molecule, acting as a bivalent connector. A third possible meaning is a polymer crosslink in which disulfide bonds serve as dynamic, reversible crosslinks between polymer chains.
