Diskreette

Diskreette is not a widely recognized term in major reference works. In practice, it may be a misspelling of "diskret" or "diskrete" in Norwegian, or a coined name used in a narrow context such as a project, brand, or fictional concept. Because there is no standard definition, its meaning depends on context.

If encountered as a variant of "diskret" or "diskrete," it would relate to discreteness: ideas, objects, or data that come in distinct, separate values rather than a smooth continuum. In mathematics, discrete mathematics studies structures that are countable and separated, such as integers, graphs, and finite sets. In data analysis, discrete data takes particular values (for example, counts). Discretization is the process of converting continuous data into discrete values.

The English word "discreet" is unrelated in meaning to the mathematical sense; it means prudent or careful, and is etymologically different despite a shared-sounding resemblance.

Etymology: from Latin discretus meaning separated; cognates include "discrete" in English and related forms in other languages. In Norwegian, the common terms are "diskret" and "diskrete." The form "diskreette" therefore lacks a stable, widely accepted definition and should be interpreted from its surrounding context.
