Morphology and phonology are often outlined in theoretical analyses as follows: the root dirigo- provides the core meaning; an infix-like element such as -oit- signals reflexive or self-directed action; and the final suffix -uvat marks third-person plural present tense, drawing a parallel to Finnic-style endings like -vat/-vät in mood and number agreement.
