By analyzing the angles and intensities of these diffracted beams, scientists can deduce information about the size, shape, and arrangement of atoms or molecules. Techniques like X-ray diffraction (XRD) are widely used to identify crystalline materials, determine unit cell dimensions, and study crystal imperfections. Neutron diffraction is particularly useful for locating light atoms like hydrogen and for studying magnetic structures. Electron diffraction, often performed in a transmission electron microscope (TEM), provides structural information at the nanoscale.
