Dieseljärjestelmät, or diesel systems, refer to the components and processes involved in the operation of diesel engines. These systems are crucial for igniting fuel and generating power in vehicles and machinery that utilize diesel combustion. A primary component is the fuel injection system, which delivers precisely metered amounts of diesel fuel into the combustion chamber at high pressure. This typically involves a fuel pump, fuel injectors, and associated lines. The high pressure is essential for atomizing the fuel into a fine mist, allowing for efficient mixing with the compressed air and subsequent combustion.

Another key aspect of diesel systems is the intake and exhaust system. Diesel engines draw in air, compress it to very high temperatures, and then inject fuel. The combustion process produces exhaust gases that are expelled through the exhaust system. Modern diesel systems often incorporate exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by reintroducing a portion of exhaust gas back into the intake. Diesel particulate filters (DPFs) are also common, designed to capture soot and other particulate matter from the exhaust. Glow plugs are used in many diesel engines to preheat the combustion chamber, aiding in cold starts by ensuring the air reaches the necessary temperature for ignition. The lubrication system is also vital, providing oil to reduce friction and wear on moving parts within the engine.
