Diere

Diere is the Afrikaans term for animals; the singular is dier and the plural is diere. In English, "animals" covers the same group, part of the kingdom Animalia. Diere are multicellular, eukaryotic, heterotrophic organisms that typically lack rigid cell walls and rely on other organisms for nutrition. Most diere are capable of moving at some life stage and have specialized tissues and, in many groups, complex sensory and nervous systems.

Taxonomy and diversity: Diere include a wide range of organisms, divided broadly into vertebrates (animals with backbones) and invertebrates (without). Important phyla include Chordata (vertebrates like mammals, birds, fish), Arthropoda (insects, spiders), Mollusca (snails, clams, octopuses), Annelida (segmented worms), Echinodermata (starfish, sea urchins), Cnidaria (jellyfish, corals), and Porifera (sponges).
