Diencephalons
Diencephalons (singular: diencephalon) are paired structures in the vertebrate brain that occupy the region between the cerebral hemispheres and the midbrain. Each diencephalon contains several distinct nuclei and associated structures, most notably the thalamus, hypothalamus, epithalamus (including the pineal gland), and subthalamus. These components are organized around the third ventricle and are integral to sensory processing, autonomic regulation, endocrine control, and motor modulation.
Anatomically, the thalamus acts as a major relay and integration center for most sensory pathways en route
Developmentally, diencephalons arise from the embryonic prosencephalon and undergo regional differentiation during early neural development. Functional
