Dicarboxylsyre

Dicarboxylsyre is a class of organic compounds that contain two carboxyl functional groups (COOH) within the same molecule. These groups are typically separated by a carbon chain, which can vary in length and structure. The simplest dicarboxylsyre are the saturated aliphatic dicarboxylsyre, often referred to as the oxalic acid series, which have the general formula HOOC-(CH2)n-COOH. Examples include oxalic acid (n=0), malonic acid (n=1), succinic acid (n=2), and glutaric acid (n=3).

Other dicarboxylsyre are used as monomers in the production of polymers such as polyesters and polyamides. They also find applications in the food industry as acidulants and preservatives, and in the pharmaceutical industry for synthesis of various drugs. Dicarboxylsyre can be synthesized through various methods, including oxidation of cyclic hydrocarbons or diols, and hydrolysis of dinitriles.
