Diacide
Diacide is a term used in chemistry to refer to any molecule that contains two acidic functional groups. These acidic groups are typically carboxyl groups (-COOH), but can also include sulfonic acid groups (-SO3H) or other acidic moieties. The presence of two acidic groups means that a diacid can undergo reactions characteristic of acids twice. For example, a diacid can react with two equivalents of a base to form a salt.
Dicarboxylic acids are the most common type of diacid. These compounds have the general formula HOOC-R-COOH,
The properties of diacids are influenced by the number of carbon atoms separating the two acidic groups.
