Dhidrogen

Dhidrogen is not a standard term in chemistry; it is usually a misspelling or transliteration of hydrogen. The element hydrogen has the symbol H and atomic number 1. The diatomic molecule most commonly encountered is dihydrogen, written H2, which is the form in which hydrogen exists under ordinary conditions.

Properties and occurrence: Hydrogen is a colorless, odorless gas at standard conditions. H2 is nonpolar and has the lowest boiling point of all elements (-252.9°C). It is highly flammable and forms explosive mixtures with air. Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe by mass, primarily in stars and gas giant planets. On Earth it is found mainly in water and many organic compounds, existing as a free gas only in small quantities or in industrial contexts.

Production and uses: Industrial hydrogen is produced mainly by steam methane reforming and by electrolysis of water. Electrolysis powered by renewable energy is described as green hydrogen. Hydrogen serves as a key feedstock for ammonia synthesis (H2 + N2 -> NH3), petroleum refining, and various chemical processes. It is also explored as a clean fuel for vehicles and for energy storage.

Safety and environmental aspects: Hydrogen is highly flammable and can form explosive mixtures with air. Leaks disperse rapidly, and storage requires careful containment and pressure control. Material compatibility, especially with certain metals, must be managed.
