Dezimeters

Dezimeters, more commonly spelled decimeters in English, are a unit of length in the metric system equal to one tenth of a meter. The symbol is dm. A dezimeter corresponds to 10 centimeters or 100 millimeters, and 1 meter equals 10 dezimeters.

Origin and usage: The dezimeter is formed by applying the decimal prefix deci- to the meter. While it is a valid unit, it is not widely used in everyday measurements; centimeters and meters are far more common in most contexts. In technical and educational settings, decimeters may appear when a measurement around 0.1 meter increments is convenient or when illustrating decimal relationships in the metric system.

Relationships to other units: 1 dm = 0.1 m = 10 cm = 100 mm. In kilometers, 1 dm equals 0.0001 km. The decimeter sits within the broader system of metric prefixes and the meter as the base unit.
