Dezful

Dezful is a city in Khuzestan Province in southwestern Iran. It is located on the Dez River, approximately 150 kilometers north of Ahvaz. The city has a long and rich history, with evidence of settlement dating back to the Elamite period.

Historically, Dezful was known for its strategic importance due to its location on the Dez River, which facilitated trade and transportation. The city's name itself, "Dezful," is believed to be derived from "Dej-pol," meaning "bridge of the fortress" in Persian, likely referring to a significant bridge constructed in the area. This bridge, the Dezful Bridge, is one of the oldest in Iran and has been rebuilt and repaired numerous times throughout history, still standing today.

The region surrounding Dezful is fertile, making agriculture a significant economic activity. Historically, the area was known for its production of grains and cotton. In modern times, Dezful remains an important agricultural center and also hosts some industrial activities.

During the Iran-Iraq War, Dezful suffered considerable damage due to its proximity to the front lines. The city was frequently targeted by Iraqi missile attacks, earning it the moniker "the city of rockets." Despite this, the resilience of its inhabitants led to its eventual reconstruction and recovery. Today, Dezful is a bustling city with a population that engages in various economic and cultural pursuits, continuing its legacy as a significant urban center in Khuzestan.
