Dexecució

Dexecució, usually written as execució in Catalan, is the noun that denotes the act or process of carrying out something, performing an action, or enforcing a sentence. In general use, it covers both the execution of plans and the execution of tasks, as well as more formal meanings such as the enforcement of judicial decisions. In English, the closest equivalent is usually “execution,” but the Catalan term is specifically execució.

Etymology and form. The word derives from Latin executio, through the historical development of Romance languages and the Catalan phonetic system. The prepositional construction d’execució (of execution) is common in Catalan to specify the act in question, for example l’execució d’un ordre (the execution of an order) or l’estat d’execució d’un programa (the execution state of a program).

Domains of use. In law and administration, execució refers to enforcing a judgment or order, and to the practical steps required to implement a decision. In computing, l’execució d’un programa means running the program and performing its instructions, with phrases like l’estat d’execució indicating the program’s execution status. In the arts and business, execució can describe the conduct of a plan or a performance, such as l’execució d’una partitura or l’execució d’una estratègia. Historically, execució has also appeared in contexts describing capital punishment, though modern usage typically prefers terms like pena de mort.
