Deskphones

A deskphone is a telephone designed for use at a desk, typically in an office or home office environment. Unlike cordless phones or mobile phones, deskphones are usually connected to a base unit or directly to a telephone line or network. They are characterized by their stationary placement and often feature a handset, a base with a dial pad, a speakerphone, and various buttons for functions like call holding, transferring, and redialing.

Modern deskphones can be analog, digital, or Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). Analog phones connect to traditional Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) lines. Digital phones are often part of a private branch exchange (PBX) system within an organization, offering more advanced features. VoIP deskphones utilize internet connections to transmit voice data, enabling features like video calling, presence indicators, and integration with other online services.

The design of deskphones varies widely, from basic, utilitarian models to sophisticated units with large color displays, programmable soft keys, and headset jacks. Their primary purpose is to provide a reliable and convenient communication tool for individuals who spend a significant amount of time at their workstation.
