Desikanttijärjestelmiä, also known as desiccant systems, are technologies designed to remove moisture from the air. These systems utilize desiccants, materials that have a high affinity for water molecules, to absorb humidity. The process typically involves passing humid air over or through a desiccant material, which captures the water vapor. Once the desiccant becomes saturated, it needs to be regenerated. This regeneration usually occurs by heating the desiccant to release the absorbed moisture, allowing the desiccant to be reused.

Common desiccant materials include silica gel, activated alumina, and molecular sieves. These systems are employed in various applications where controlling humidity is crucial. Examples include industrial drying processes, preventing condensation in sensitive electronic equipment, preserving food and pharmaceuticals, and in some air conditioning and dehumidification units. The effectiveness of a desiccant system depends on factors such as the type of desiccant used, the temperature and humidity of the air, and the airflow rate. Desiccant systems can operate effectively even at low temperatures, which is an advantage over some refrigeration-based dehumidifiers. Their ability to achieve very low humidity levels makes them suitable for specialized industrial and scientific applications.
