Desiccantwielsystemen

Desiccantwielsystemen are a type of dehumidification technology that utilizes a rotating wheel impregnated with a desiccant material. This wheel continuously rotates through two airstreams: a process airstream and a reactivation airstream. In the process airstream, the desiccant material absorbs moisture from the air to be dehumidified. As the wheel rotates, the section containing the absorbed moisture moves into the reactivation airstream. Here, heated air is passed through the desiccant, releasing the trapped moisture and regenerating the wheel's capacity to absorb more water.

The primary function of a desiccantwielsysteem is to reduce the humidity level in an airstream to very low levels, often below what is achievable with traditional condensation dehumidifiers. This makes them suitable for applications where precise humidity control is critical. Examples include industrial processes like pharmaceutical manufacturing, food processing, and electronics assembly, as well as in specialized environments such as museums and archives to preserve delicate artifacts.

The effectiveness of a desiccantwielsysteem depends on several factors, including the type and amount of desiccant material used, the airflow rates of both airstreams, and the temperature of the reactivation air. Different desiccant materials, such as silica gel or activated alumina, have varying moisture absorption capacities and operating temperature ranges. The design of the wheel itself, including its size and the density of the desiccant impregnation, also plays a role in its overall performance and efficiency.
